After reading Carnal Nation’s I just had to add two more (besides the obvious. I do know my blog readers after all… you’ll have no problem with that part).
Here’s one: If you find porn you enjoy, pay for it. That way it will keep being made. If you don’t support the stuff you like with cold, hard capitalist cash it won’t proliferate, the models won’t get paid, the producers won’t eat anything that isn’t shaped like ramen, and the “good stuff” will never drown out the disposable, mundane crap.*
It’s not a dehumanizing feeling; it’s a primal feeling. It’s energy, it’s responsiveness, it’s connection.
There are too many well-meaning advocates who are pro-1st-amendment, even strong allies of sex workers, but believe that while looking at porn is healthy and normal, spending money on porn is weird and pervy.

Here’s one more: When you find the good stuff, the porn or smut or erotica that turns you on, let somebody know. Those sticky-fingered, sincere letters? We read them. We laugh, or we flush, or we get a wicked idea for something new – but we remember them. And we glow.
*I’m not falling for the false dichotomy of “good” porn (virtuous, artistic, amateur/alternative/outside the mainstream, often featuring unconventional body types, often run by starving artists and still concerned about scene cred) vs. “bad” porn (evil, corporate, icky, mainstream, tan, in better shape than you, full of lots of sticky, enthusiastic women getting fucked by straight, dominant men). There is hot smut in both camps, there is utter crap in both camps and I’d rather blur the line (enthusiastic, well paid people of all body types and gender presentations having hot sex in every possible configuration).

Australia, I’m talking about you. While those in adult industry production, and those involved in protecting sexual free speech, know Australia has never been a porn haven (although they do produce an awful lot of the best), this one made even my jaded activist jaw drop:
An Australian Supreme Court judge convicted a man of possessing child pornography. The images in question were stored on his hard drive: explicit cartoon images modeled after Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, child characters from long-running cartoon The Simpsons, apparently having sex with their parents (also cartoon characters). Google “free hentai” a few times and I’m sure you’ll come across the same type of image–I know I have.
This type of image–a parody–is actually considered protected fair use under U.S. copyright law. In this case it would probably also be at risk of being found obscene.
“If the persons were real, such depictions could never be permitted,” Justice Adams said in his judgment. “Their creation would constitute crimes at the very highest end of the criminal calendar.” Let’s back that one up. “If the persons were real.” I’d say that’s an important distinction.

A tangent on got me thinking: One of the top complaints people have about porn companies is that the products they’re putting out are too banal. There are enormous numbers of active porn consumers, and a lot of people (including women, you know, that other 50% of the population…) who would buy porn, or would buy more porn, if they could.
If you spend any time on sex-oriented forums, you’ve seen at least one thread derailed by an “I really wish they’d make porn this way” post.
So what are people looking for? You’ve heard it already:
Real breasts,
More visual variety in performers,
Real heat,
Foreplay,
Lesbian kisses that are full-on rather than just a distant tongue-touch,
Less degradation in mainstream porn, and
Hotter guys in straight porn.
What you haven’t heard (unless you spend a lot of time around fetishists) is the stuff people aren’t asking for, or are only asking for in front of like-minded kinksters. The stuff that isn’t mainstream porn to begin with.
It’s funny because right now porn companies are trying so hard to find something nobody else is doing to dominate, and are grabbing any fetish they can figure out how to photograph, but with so many of them they’re missing the point, and with others they’re afraid to even touch them.
Tease and denial calls singlehandedly keep some phone sex companies in business. That said, there are a few amateurs that do tease and denial videos but these guys are begging for more. They’ll tell you what they want to see, give scenarios and shot details, they’ll even write scripts for you. All you have to do is talk to them, listen to them, get the mindset, get the models and the setup and sell these people some videos.
Part of the reason mainstream porn is so stagnant is that a lot of people making the decisions just haven’t realized yet that a) straight guys like their asses played with, and b) women like to watch guys get their asses played with.

Make the boys pretty enough and the girl college-aged or so and you have a bestseller.
